A Stevenson Ranch hotel was held up at gunpoint Friday morning, but the robber escaped, officials said.
Local sheriff’s deputies tracked, cornered and held a suspect for the robbery, but it was the wrong guy, a sheriff’s lieutenant said.

Shortly after 10 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the Fairfield Inn Santa Clarita on The Old Road on reports of a robbery.

No shots were fired and no one was injured , said Lt. Mark Hershey of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“We tracked a guy but it wasn’t him,” Hershey said.

Kimberly Micciche, front office manager for the Fairfield Inn, said hotel staff is working with detectives.

“Everything is fine,” she said late Friday afternoon.

Detectives were still looking for a black SUV suspected as the getaway car Friday night.

“There is an outstanding suspect and nobody has been arrested,” said Lt. Bill Weiss. “There was a weapon and I believe it was a handgun.”

The SUV was last seen traveling southbound on The Old Road from the hotel.

A vehicle matching the description was seen getting on the southbound lanes of Interstate 5.

At 10:25 a.m., deputies stopped that vehicle on Coldwater Canyon Avenue in the San Fernando Valley and held a single occupant at gunpoint. However, it turned out not to be the robber.
