Letter:Confusion over contract

I am confused by the article titled “Ken Striplin’s new contract approved” that appeared in the Wednesday, Sept. 12, edition of The Signal:

“The contract approved Tuesday was the result of a meeting between Mayor Frank Ferry and Councilman Bob Kellar, and two meetings the pair had with Striplin, Ferry said.”

Is that even legal? Were the other council members invited to attend and chose not to? Did the city attorney provide feedback, other than comments about the salary increases mentioned in the contract?

Editor’s note: Mayor Frank Ferry and Councilman Bob Kellar constituted an ad hoc committee appointed to serve as the city’s negotiating team with Ken Striplin to work out terms of the new contract. The full City Council voted 4-1 in public session to approve the terms of the contract.
