Town Center welcomes Trinity

Megan Schafer has the holiday spirit as part of Trinity Classical Academy's recent performance at the Westfield Valencia Town Center mall.

There was a new presence at the mall on Sunday afternoon, and I'm not referring to Santa Claus.

Just outside of Santa's village in the courtyard between Sisley and TGI Fridays, one could hear voices and violins, cellos and cheers.

Trinity Classical Academy choir, orchestra and cheerleaders were making a joyful noise.

Liz Caddow, founder and head of the school, welcomed everyone and introduced the beginning orchestra, under the direction of Melanie Klar. The group featured fourth- through sixth-grade violinists and cello players who had only been playing since September, and they performed two songs beautifully.

Varsity and junior varsity cheer teams, under the direction of Jeanette Ruiz and Yvette DeMarois, performed various cheers throughout the hour, bringing great spirit to the assembly.

Perhaps the favorite cheer incorporated the school's mission statement into an old favorite: "Yes, we've got spirit, but we've also got virtue, wisdom, purpose and courage." Now that's something to cheer about!

Also on hand raising their young voices in Christmas praise was the choir under the direction of Jennifer Brown. Smiling faces and angelic voices brought warmth on a chilly afternoon. They finished the performance with a good old-fashioned sing-along, passing out bells to onlookers and joining in choruses of "Jingle Bells" and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer."

The other notable presence was the tent raised by Trinity, where passers-by could get more information about the school and any of its upcoming events.
