I like to start out the New Year with a special "clip and save" calendar of important dates for the first part of the year. Here's your early 2009 SCV social scene dayplanner calendar - this is part two of the calender that was started last week.

April 18
The fifth annual Circle of Hope Walk for Hope 5K and car show will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at lower Castaic lake where family members, teams and even dogs can join in the fun.

There is also a Peoples' Choice car show and barbecue. All proceeds benefit uninsured and underinsured breast cancer patients that live, work or receive treatment in the Santa Clarita Valley.

The barbecue will be held at Castaic Lake, lower lake at 32132 Castaic Lake Drive. Contact: Colleen Shaffer, (661) 254-5218,

April 19
The Assistance League Footsteps 5KRun/Walk will be held from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. from Newhall Park to South Fork Trail and back. The event also includes a 1K Kids/Fun Run. Start in Newhall Park at Newhall and Dalbey Avenue. Contact: Nancy Magnante at (661) 713-3035.

April 22-26
The best performers in Western entertainment will be celebrated at the 16th annual Cowboy Festival with several events throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.

On April 25 and 26, walk through an authentic Western movie set at Melody Ranch Motion Picture Studio, enjoy performances by cowboy musicians and poets and dine on cowboy cuisine.

May 30-31
The 11th annual Relay For Life is "24 Hours you will never forget." The event begins Saturday, May 30 at 9 a.m. and ends on Sunday May 31 at 9 a.m. Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of your local American Cancer Society.

During this event, teams of people gather at Central Park, 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road, Saugus and take turns walking or running laps.

Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times. Music, food, games and entertainment. All survivors of cancer are invited to kick-start the event by taking the first lap around the field. Info: or e-mail
