COVINA, Calif. (AP) — Covina police say they have arrested a Los Angeles County probation officer suspected of shooting a man after they had an argument at a bar.

Police Sgt. Ray Marquez says 53-year-old Michael Sanchez was arrested Sunday when he showed up for work at the Los Padrinos Detention Facility in Downey.

Sanchez allegedly got into an argument with a man at Katie Jakes Bar in Covina before both men were booted from the bar.

Police say Sanchez then shot the victim in the upper torso. The victim recovered from his injuries after being treated at a hospital.

Sanchez was arrested after police released images from surveillance footage and sought the public's help in identifying him.

The probation officer was placed on administrative leave. His bail has been set at $1 million.
