CAMP WILLIAMS, Calif. (AP) — Firefighters are getting closer to surrounding a wildfire that has been burning for six days in rugged areas of the San Gabriel Mountains northeast of Los Angeles.

U.S. Forest Service Spokeswoman Robert Brady says the fire is 78 percent contained Saturday after burning 6½ square miles.

Crews are concentrating on the northern edge of the fire, with hopes of having it fully contained by Sept. 13. Twelve firefighters have suffered minor injuries.

The fire broke out over Labor Day weekend, driving thousands of visitors from the Angeles National Forest and keeping out thousands more.

A few dozen residents from the forest had to evacuate, but were allowed back to their homes Thursday.

The camping area will remain closed all weekend.
