Soroptimist International of Santa Clarita Valley held its new officer installation recently at the Tournament Players Club in Valencia.
Guests included club members, Soroptimist notables and local dignitaries. Attendees witnessed the swearing in of the club’s new board of directors.
Cyndi Diaz, the newly installed club president chose her year’s theme as “Serving Together in Perfect Harmony.”
“My theme, ‘Serving Together in Perfect Harmony’ was chosen to signify a club that is harmonious in their mission and serving together,” Diaz said. “I would like our club to work like an orchestra, bringing everyone’s strengths to the table in order to make a beautiful sound.”
Linda Haines, Soroptimist International Camino Real Region governor, served as the installing officer.
Haines presented each board member with a musical instrument to signify each officer’s part in the club’s orchestra.
The 2012-13 slate of officers includes:
President-elect Sharyn Buncick
Vice President Suzanne Stone
Treasurer Kelly Inga
Treasurer-elect Lorraine Furden

As each of the new officers was installed, a treble clef pin was presented to each woman.
The outgoing president, Sandi Naba, recounted several of the club’s accomplishments during her year.
“Of course there were fundraisers; this is what we do as a nonprofit,” she said. “Some of the fundraisers we participated in, and hosted, included Bras for a Cause 2011…Denim and Diamond Hoedown, A Day in My Shoes, T-Up for Education and Gentlemen for a Cause.”
Naba reported that the club earned a net profit of approximately $37,785 and donated nearly $28,000 this year which included donations given to Soroptimist International of the Americas, Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center, Circle of Hope, Zoe International Ministries and the Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley.
Naba’s theme was “Leading with Heart and Soul.”
She set as one of the club’s goals to increase the hands-on projects.
“These projects included helping at the Newhall Thanksgiving Feast, Adopt-a-Family from the Child and Family Center for the holidays, the Food Collection Project for Help the Children as our Saturday of Service, and our Mother’s Day Project at the Domestic Violence Center where we worked with the children to make presents for their mothers,” Naba said.
Naba also praised the $6,000 grant that was awarded to the club by Soroptimist International.
“The grant is in support of our ongoing project Comforts During Breast Cancer,” she said. “The funds will be used to continue with the support of newly diagnosed breast cancer patients at Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center.”
Since Soroptimist International of SCV was chartered in 1974 the club has contributed more than $1 million to SCV and international nonprofits and programs to improve the lives of women and girls.
