West Ranch defenders Bryton Plush, left, and Tyler Woldanski, right, take down Eastside fullback Emmanual Morgan late in the fourth quarter on Friday at Valencia High.

After holding the opposition scoreless through three quarters, West Ranch gave up 24 points in the fourth quarter and ended up falling to Eastside of Lancaster 24-14 Friday at Dr. Paul A. Priesz Stadium.

The Wildcats (1-2) took an early 7-0 lead with 8:19 in the first quarter as quarterback Gerrit Mouw’s first pass of the game was completed to Rawston Reddick for a 40-yard touchdown.
Reddick caught the pass down the left sideline and then proceeded to break a tackle and outran the defense for the score.

Mouw finished the game 11-for-17 for 158 yards and a touchdown with an interception, while Reddick caught three passes for 68 yards and a touchdown.

The score remained 7-0 through three quarters.

With 10:13 left in the fourth quarter, Eastside’s Emmanual Morgan recovered a fumble by West Ranch’s Zahr Lyttle as the Wildcats looked to keep the ball on the ground and run out the clock.

On the next play, Eastside (3-0) tied the game 7-7 as quarterback Alex Heim connected with Domanique Bailey for a 42-yard touchdown.

Looking to regain the lead, West Ranch leaned on running back Mark Collins on their next series of downs.

On the drive, Collins rushed four times for 38 yards, including a 13-yard touchdown run with 6:31 left in the game.

The touchdown capped off an eight play, 81-yard scoring drive to give the Wildcats a 14-7 lead.

Collins finished the game with 17 carries for 124 yards and the score.

On the next Eastside possession, the Lions got another big play from their quarterback as Heim hit Lawrence Parker for a 45-yard touchdown.

Heim completed each of his last five passes and finished the game 11-for-20 for 176 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.

Following the touchdown, Eastside executed a perfect fake extra point.

From his holder position, Devin Taft rolled to his right and hit Walter Patton for a successful two-point conversion to give the Lions a 15-14 lead with 5:13 left in the game.

Disaster struck for the Wildcats on the ensuing kickoff as Lyttle tried to pitch the ball back to Collins on the play.

Collins recovered the bad pitch and was tackled in the end zone for an Eastside safety to extend the lead to 17-14.

The Lions added a touchdown with 3:03 left in the fourth quarter on a halfback pass from Elvonzo Cromwell to Clifton Jordan to make the score 24-14.
