The California Community College Chancellor’s Office awarded College of the Canyons a pair of grants totaling almost $357,000 for development of the college’s nursing and plumbing programs.

The nearly $240,000 Responsive Training Fund grant will establish a new nurse training partnership with Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.

The training program will allow more than 30 licensed vocational nurses at Henry Mayo to avoid dismissal and become registered nurses.

Funds will also provide space in the college’s crowded nursing program and help maintain the RN-to-patient ratio at Henry Mayo.

The Industry Driven Regional Collaborative grant will provide $117,000 for the planned 25-unit plumbing program, helping to create curriculum and build a plumbing technology lab that meets industry standards.
