Los Angeles County Fire Department heavy rescue and urban search-and-rescue units were called off a cow rescue in Acton today after a veterinarian showed up to handle the situation, a Fire Department dispatcher said.
Firefighters were dispatched to a farm or animal sanctuary in the 5200 block of Escondido Canyon Road at 3:28 p.m. on the report that a 2,500-pound cow was in need of rescue, fire officials said.
When a veterinarian showed up just before 4 p.m., the rescue units were turned back and the firefighters on scene were returned to their station, a dispatcher said.
The nature of the cow's distress was not known, the dispatcher said.
