An official with the coroner’s office has identified the woman and child killed in Tuesday’s multi-car pileup near Gorman.

The victims were identified as Latonya Sutton-Grey, 42, and Lielani Grey, 6, both of Los Angeles, Lt. Larry Dietz of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Department said Wednesday.

The bodies are expected to be examined today, he said.

About 5 a.m. Tuesday, a sport utility vehicle believed to have been carrying a family back from the Labor Day holiday weekend crashed on Interstate 5 Grapevine north of Castaic, causing a chain-reaction pileup that killed the woman and the girl.

Sutton-Grey, driving the SUV southbound, hit the center divider in the Gorman area, hurling herself and the girl out of the car. They were pronounced dead at the scene, California Highway Patrol Lt. Craig Whitty said Tuesday.
Nine others were hurt in the crash, four critically.

Their identities and conditions have not been released.
