A driver hit a woman riding a bicycle on a Valencia street Tuesday, then fled the scene, leaving her injured on the road, sheriff’s deputies said.

The woman was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The 54-year-old cyclist was riding her white 10-speed bicycle north on Orchard Village Road shortly after 11 a.m. when she was struck by a car turning left from southbound traffic, Lt. Mark Hershey said.

The car was turning eastbound on Dalbey Drive when the collision occurred, he said.

The woman, whose name was not released, suffered multiple injuries including head injuries, Hershey said.
“Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening,” he said.

Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department placed the injured cyclist on a stretcher, her face covered in blood, and took her to the local hospital.

Deputies are treating the incident as a felony hit-and-run.

Witnesses near the intersection described the car as a blue Honda Civic with tinted windows. Deputies were searching for a blue or gray Honda Civic or Accord, last seen eastbound on Dalbey.

“We’re still looking for the vehicle,” Hershey said.

The car likely has damage to its front and/or hood in light of reports that the cyclist was thrown to the car’s hood.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or has any further information to assist in the investigation, is urged to contact Detective Jeff Maag at 661-799-5112 or at
