A fire hydrant, located near the corner of Castaic and Lake Hughes roads turned into a geyser at about 6 p.m., Tuesday, according to Castaic resident, Michael-John Wolf.

Wolf and his wife, Amy, were out on an evening stroll when he saw an enormous plume of water jetting above nearby trees.

Wolf, an amateur photographer who carries a camera everywhere he goes, rushed to the scene and snapped a shot. The hydrant ruptured when a car slammed into it.

Newhall County Water District workers shut off the water and repaired the hydrant by Wednesday, said Karen Russell, water district spokesman.

Details of the accident were not available at press time.
