Motorists southbound on Highway 14 Sunday morning found a refrigerator in the middle of the highway at the same “dangerous” bend where a 19-car pileup occurred in June.

Shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday, officers of the California Highway Patrol received reports of debris - including a refrigerator - scattered across all lanes of the highway at Escondido Canyon Road.

Some reports indicated the fridge was blocking the middle lanes and was eventually reported in the third lane from the center median.

A CHP officer contacted Sunday said he received no reports of injury or serious damage caused by the debris.

This summer, CHP officers have been dispatched to the highway at Escondido Canyon Road for a variety of mishaps.

On Aug. 22, a motorist suffered minor head injuries Wednesday when his car rolled several times at that bend in the highway.

On July 25, at least three vehicles hit bales of hay that fell from the back of a truck at the same location.

On June 26, a 19-car pileup on southbound Highway 14 near Acton injured 18 people after a big rig barreled into several cars halted during a traffic stop to remove debris in the roadway, officials said at the time.

An official with the Los Angeles County Fire Department, commenting on the 19-car pile-up,  called the stretch of highway “dangerous” as did a CHP officer responding to the August incident.
