Santa Clarita City Council members awarded a contract to design improvements on the Lost Canyon Road bridge across Sand Canyon wash in Canyon Country.

The contract to design a new bridge, awarded to Biggs Cardosa Associates Inc., amounts to $295,000 plus a contingency amount of nearly $30,000.

Plans call for the bridge to accommodate two 12-foot-wide travel lanes, 4-foot shoulders and a multi-use path on the north side.

The bridge, constructed in 1960, is eligible for Highway Bridge Program funding.
