Mae Powell, 93, stands before what is left of her giant pumpkins Friday at her East Pasadena home.

PASADENA (AP) — A 93-year-old prize-winning grower awoke to find that five giant pumpkins from her Pasadena front yard had been smashed including a 300-pounder she'd planned to enter in an annual weigh-off.

The Pasadena Star-News ( ) reports that Mae Powell and her neighbors were stunned to find the pumpkins in pieces on their street Friday.

Powell tells the newspaper she had planned to enter the biggest of them in October's "Pumpkinmania" competition in Irvine, where she has won prizes before, and had intended to donate the other four to the Huntington Library Children's Garden as she's done for the past five years.

Powell filed a police report and is offering a $1,000 reward for information that may lead to the pumpkin smashers, but the sheriff's department says it has no leads.
