Two people were detained in Newhall about 4 p.m. Friday after leading Los Angeles Police Department officers on a car and foot pursuit that started in Tujunga.

Two suspects, one of whom was possibly driving under the influence, led officers on a pursuit that started at 3:45 p.m. at Foothill Boulevard and Mt. Gleason Avenue in Tujunga, according to Cleon Jospeh, an LAPD officer.

The suspects crashed their car into a bush in Newhall and led officers on a foot pursuit up a brush-covered hill where they surrendered at 4:10 p.m., Joseph said.

The chase ended just off the Placerita Canyon Road exit of Highway 14, said Lt. Bill Weiss with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the pursuit but arrived after the two had been detained, Weiss said.

The chase extended about 20 miles.

The male motorist appeared to be limping as he fled officers, while his female passenger appeared uninjured, according to TV footage of the chase.

The suspects were in custody, Joseph said.
