CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. (AP) — Southern California foothill and desert communities are cleaning up after fast and furious storms sent mud and water flooding into homes.
KESQ-TV says a road in Cathedral City near Palm Springs reopened Friday morning. A nearby canyon levee failed Thursday, sending water, rocks and mud down a mountain and turning East Palm Canyon Drive into a rushing river.
Some mobile homes were flooded but nobody was hurt.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise (bit.ly/RrRKkL) says water and mud from flooded streets also flowed into dozens of homes in Moreno Valley.
Lightning hit a tree in the Los Angeles suburb of Whittier, sparking a half-acre fire that damaged two cars.
Forecasters say mountains and deserts will have a continued chance of storms through Friday evening but the chance of flooding is slight.
