Deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station are holding a checkpoint tonight from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., according to a Sheriff’s Department news release.
Deputies will be contacting drivers passing through the checkpoint for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment.
Over the past three years, Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s deputies have investigated 212 fatal and injury DUI collisions; countywide, 730 individuals were killed in drunk driving wrecks, according to the statement.
Sheriff’s Department officials select checkpoint locations based on their statistics regarding where the highest incidences of drunken and drugged driving occur, officials said.
Tonight’s checkpoint was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
