Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia has broken ground on the theme park’s 18th roller coaster, said Bonnie Rabjohn, president of Six Flags Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor.

The coaster, named Full Throttle, is expected to be operational in the spring and will be the only one of its kind in the world, she said.

“This coaster will change the skyline of the park,” said Rabjohn. “It was built to follow the terrain of our park. It hugs the mountainside and goes through the tunnel at the top of the hill. It really utilizes the unique landscape of Six Flags Magic Mountain.”

Rabjohn said the coaster will be a one-of-a-kind triple-launch coaster as well as the tallest and fastest looping coaster in the world.

“This will be an amazing roller coaster,” she said.

It will include a novel new feature, a “Top Hat” that traces the outside of a world-record loop, towering 160 feet — plus a zero-to-70-mph acceleration on two forward launches and one backward launch into and out of a special effects tunnel.

“The Top Hat is a new coaster element and it will be on no other coaster in the world,” she said.
Rabjohn said details of the special effects tunnel will be kept under wraps until the opening of Full Throttle.

“We want to have a few surprises,” she said.

The coaster is being constructed at the front of the park in a newly themed five-acre section.

“This is the biggest transformation to the park in decades,” said Rabjohn. “We’re still in the design phase, but when our guests first enter the park and make that right turn, it’s going to be a brand new first impression of the park.”

She described the new entrance as including “fast-paced imagery, sound and lights.”

The 18th roller coaster will give Six Flags Magic Mountain more coasters than any other theme park in the world.

Full Throttle will join Magic Mountain’s other unique coasters including Tatsu — the tallest, fastest and longest flying coaster in the world, X2 — the world’s first and only fifth-dimensional coaster, Apocalypse — the next generation of wooden coasters and Goliath — a mega coaster.
