Those lucky enough to make it out to the park on Sunday afternoon had a rare opportunity to catch a glimpse of the annual Easter sunrise service put on by members of the Alliance of Christian Churches in Acton and Agua Dulce.
Church members met at Vasquez Rocks in full costume on Sunday, as they ran a dress rehearsal of their upcoming show on Easter Sunday.
The show, which will occur at approximately 5 a.m. on March 23, is a reenactment of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
"It is a very dramatic presentation," said Pastor Mike Sheridan. "The resurrection is central to the Christian faith. The sunrise service helps in putting a sight to our faith."
Once a small, local event organized by one congregation almost 50 years ago, the Easter sunrise service at Vasquez Rocks has turned into an annual phenomenon that brings together three churches and thousands of followers.
"It was once a local deal," said Sheridan. "Then other churches were brought in and this turned into a pageant."
