Letter: Capitalism, not socialism, hurts America

America is too capitalistic. I have been reminded of this on many occasions. Here are three of them:

First, just about a week ago, the clerk at a donut shop here in Santa Clarita refused a thirsty patron a cup of water because the patron didn’t have the 20 cents the cup cost.

Yes, the patron was refused a cup of water when the weather outside was in the triple digits.

Second, I took some verbal abuse during the Northridge earthquake from a couple of fanatical capitalists. I was a student at the time living on the campus of Cal State Northridge, where a fellow student, nude, asked me for some clothes.

I gave that student a couple of pairs of pants and a couple of shirts. Some bystanders said my behavior was anti-American.

Third, I myself was an actual victim of capitalistic oversight. I was in a psychological session, where I told the clinical psychologist that socialism would be better than capitalism.

She became upset at me, stating that, “In socialism all people are financially poor. In capitalism, at least one can earn enough to become an individual.” She also refused to see me again.

I say I was a victim in the encounter because I thought she was a great therapist who had denied me her greatness because of her beliefs in capitalism.

Yes, America is too capitalistic for its own good. There are people who agree with me about that. They just do not have the nerve to speak up.
