Despite gusty winds Sunday afternoon in Northern California, firefighters continued to make steady progress containing wildfires. Nearly 8,300 firefighters are working on the 8 major wildfires still burning in northern California. Additional resources and personnel have been mobilized from throughout the state to assist with new fires or rapid growth on existing fires, due to the predicted weather conditions. Coordination continues between Federal, State and Local fire agencies to respond to existing fires and any new incidents.

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for northeastern California and northwest Nevada from noon through 9 p.m. Tuesday evening. Gusty winds of over 35 mph and very low relative humidity have created critical fire weather conditions in these areas. Portions of Northern California will see slightly lower temperatures today with lighter winds. However, a Fire Weather Watch has been issued for Tuesday in most of northwest California. This Fire Weather Watch could be upgraded to a Red Flag Warning as the weather system develops into northern California later today. These predicted weather conditions have the potential to significantly impact existing fires that are not 100% controlled as well as any new fires that start.

The Fire danger in northern California remains elevated over the next few days. Higher temperatures are anticipated mid-week in Southern California which will increase the fire danger throughout the state. During Red Flag Warnings and periods of high fire danger, CAL FIRE asks that residents avoid using powered equipment for mowing or weed eating on dry grass since a simple spark from a mower blade can spark a wildfire.
