CAMARILLO, Calif. (AP) — A Metrolink commuter train with 38 passengers has slammed into a big-rig at an agricultural crossing near Camarillo Airport in Ventura County.
Metrolink spokesman Scott Johnson says Los Angeles-bound train No. 102 struck the big-rig at about 5:55 a.m. Friday near Camarillo.
California Highway Patrol officials say it was still dark and misty when truck driver Alfred Espinoza heard a train horn but couldn't move across the tracks in time.
The 63-year-old suffered fractured ribs and his passenger, his son Isaac, suffered a head laceration in the collision. The big-rig was transporting a tractor.
The CHP says a woman on the train was treated for back pain.
The train didn't derail. Two buses took passengers from the scene. Both track and road were closed for several hours.
