An elderly woman, possibly with dementia, was found walking on the Highway 14 freeway in Canyon Country this morning wearing a bathrobe and slippers, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

The call of the woman walking up the Sand Canyon Road off-ramp of the freeway came in to the Newhall CHP office shortly before 8 a.m., said Officer Michael Karr.

“I arrived on the scene and a motorist had stopped to assist her,” Karr said. “She seemed disorientated.”

The woman was clad in a bathrobe and slippers, he said.

Karr gave the woman a ride off the freeway and took her to a nearby Shell gas station, where paramedics assessed her. Karr said the woman only spoke Spanish and couldn’t write her name or phone number on a piece of paper he handed her.

Two of the woman’s family members found her at the gas station and took her back to the mobile home park where they lived together, Karr said. The family members spoke limited English but told Karr the woman may have dementia.

“They told me they were sleeping and left the door open but didn’t know anything further than that,” Karr said.
