A birthday celebration erupted into a fight in Val Verde early Sunday, leaving one man shot dead and another injured.

At approximately 12:13 a.m., a fight broke out between three men attending a birthday party at a residence in the 28700 block of Lincoln Avenue in Val Verde. The altercation ended when a man pulled out a handgun and shot at two other men.

After the shooting, both victims were transported to a local hospital. One victim was pronounced dead at the hospital, while the second victim was in stable condition. The motive for the shooting was unknown, according to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's deputies.

The suspect immediately fled the scene, and no arrests were made. Information about the suspect was also not released.

Sunday's shooting was the third shooting death in Val Verde in the last year.

Last Sept. 22, federal fugitive Gevorg Gasparyan was shot and killed in his home on Lexington Drive, during what homicide investigators termed an attempted robbery. It remains under investigation.

On Sept. 25, Hermilio Talamante was shot and killed during a dispute with his neighbor Clarence Pullum, in front of his home on Arlington Street. What started as a fistfight escalated when both men pulled out firearms.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff Department's Homicide Bureau is investigating the matter.
