A local man is in custody on burglary and grand theft charges after he was arrested following a short pursuit Tuesday in Castaic.

“The suspect was named in a burglary report and they came up to him outside of his residence and he took off,” said Lt. Mark Hershey of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The suspect, Matthew Warren, was apprehended a few minutes later, Hershey said.

“(The suspect) drove for less than a mile and jumped out of the car, and they went on (foot) pursuit after him,” Hershey said, adding that the chase lasted about 400 yards.

“They chased him up and down the block and around the corner, and eventually he got tired and stopped in front of a deputy who wasn’t (tired),” Hershey said.

Warren was a parolee at large when the chase occurred, so it’s likely there’s no bail on the warrant, Hershey said.
Warren was in custody at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
