A man who survived last month’s deadly crash on Soledad Canyon Road and remained in a coma for at least two weeks has been released from the hospital, friends said Monday.

Anthony Hernandez, 24, of Canyon Country was listed in critical condition at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital for more than a week after the crash following extensive surgery on his legs and face, said his friend, Frank Ferguson.

On Monday, Ferguson reported that Hernandez had emerged from his coma and was recovering at home.

A hospital spokeswoman confirmed also Monday that Hernandez was no longer a patient there.

Hernandez was seriously injured in an early morning crash July 10 when the car he was driving left the roadway and struck a raised center median on Soledad just west of Camp Plenty Road.

His 20-year-old brother, Luis Castillo Jr., died in the crash.
