A California man has been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the stabbing death Thursday of a Valencia man in New Mexico, according to police in Clovis, N.M.

Dead is Kevin Reardon, 35, of Valencia.

On Friday, police in Clovis charged his friend Chris Fox, also 35, of San Luis Obispo, with an open count of murder in connection with Reardon’s death.

On Thursday, about 10:30 p.m., Reardon and Fox — who was reportedly with him on a visit to a relative’s house — got into a fight outside a home in a South Clovis trailer park, said Clovis Police Capt. Patrick Whitney.

Reardon was rushed to Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, four miles away, and later transferred to a trauma hospital in Lubbock, Texas, where he died from his injuries early Friday morning.

“The stabbing occurred outside of a home in the 300 block of Dawn Loop in South Clovis at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Thursday ... during a confrontation that erupted between the two men,” according to a media release issued by Whitney.

“The two men were staying with an aunt of one of the men,” he said.

Detectives with the Clovis Police Department Special Operations Detective Unit are collecting evidence and conducting interviews, he said.

Fox is being held on bond at the Curry County Adult Detention Center in Clovis.
