Letter: Diverting the truth

Have you ever seen someone conduct a shell game? The purpose of the game is to divert the attention of the player by deftly moving three shells with a pea or other object under one of them.

The objective is to keep the participant from correctly guessing which shell the pea is under.

Obama is playing the shell game with his Medicare speech. His purpose: keep voters from making the correct choice.

By criticizing possible vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan for actually proposing a plan to keep Medicare solvent, Obama is hoping to keep the spotlight off the fact that he has already removed more than $500 billion from the Medicare pool to fund his pet health care project.

This is a conscious choice of pandering to lower-income folks for votes while seriously undercutting the quality of care given to our seniors.

This is not a conversation that Obama really wants to have. He wants to move the shells to keep everyone’s focus away from the real issue at hand.

There is a need to provide real reform right now, not politically convenient diversions calculated to gain votes.

If you really think Obama is taking care of our seniors, look at the changes in Medicare that will occur in 2013 due to Obamacare funding requirements. Many doctors are already deciding to no longer take Medicare patients because of the funding cuts.

Ryan should be supported for making a clear and honest effort to keep our Medicare going for future generations. Don’t be fooled by the Obama shell game.
