The people of the Santa Clarita Valley lost an asset that will never be replaced.

Harry Gratz was not an elected official, but was able to talk to people in a way that made them listen. His appearances before the City Council and his work at the Senior Center were part of what makes our valley a better place for all of us.

Harry was instrumental in making a shabby little spot of land in Newhall a beautiful location and memorial to all of the military veterans — not just of our valley, but the entire nation.

I think what we should do for Harry is to remember him at the memorial by naming it for him or at least placing a plaque at that location telling of his accomplishments and work he did for all of us veterans
