Davis is grandfather to seven grandchildren who were all born at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.
Another thing Davis knows about waiting for another grandchild to arrive, it's that the hospital's maternity services waiting room was in need of a facelift.
But Davis isn't the type to complain. As owner of Davis Plastering, he is a doer.
Davis, his son Keith and friend Marvin Hatch, at H&S Electrical, teamed with the hospital's Health Foundation.
"They completely remodeled the family waiting room, the ceiling, walls, carpet," said Sally McGann, the hospital's director of women's services. "They put up a special venetian plaster on the walls, brought in new furniture and put a new flat-screen television on the wall."
The team of waiting-room-remodel volunteers put the entire project together and completed the redo in a week, she said.
"We are so appreciative of what they have done for us," McGann said. "That really came from his heart, and it was such a nice gift for us as a hospital and for all the families that will be able to use it now."
Yoti Telio of Yoti Photography donated wall art featuring infant portraits.
The room has been open three weeks and is getting good use.
"It was so generous that they did this; they made it a much more pleasing environment for families to wait," McGann said.
