The motorcyclist airlifted to hospital Monday following a crash on Interstate 5 near Gorman has died, officers of the California Highway Patrol revealed today.

Ronnie Gene Hagar, 59, of Ojai, was pronounced dead at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital at 5:25 p.m. Monday, said CHP Officer J.P. Mair in a media release issued Tuesday morning.

Shortly before 4:30 p.m. Monday, Hagar was travelling northbound on the freeway on a 1992 Harley-Davidson motorcycle when a piece of clothing attached to the bike’s “sissy bar” came loose and “became dislodged and got hung up in the rear spoke,” the CHP officer said.

Consequently, Hagar lost control of the motorcycle and hit the concrete K-rail to the right lane.

He was thrown into a ditch by the freeway.

Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department airlifted the victim to hospital.

The chopper landed at the hospital at 5:13 p.m.

The crash is still under investigation.
