A motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries Monday afternoon following a crash on Interstate 5 near Gorman.

Shortly before 4:30 p.m., California Highway Patrol officers received reports a motorcyclist northbound on the freeway crashed into the K-rail and went into a ditch north of Vista Del Lago Road, a CHP officer confirmed.

A helicopter was dispatched to the crash site by the Los Angeles County Fire Department, a department spokesman said.

CHP officers stopped traffic on the northbound lanes while emergency vehicles responded to the crash.

Shortly after 5 p.m., chopper paramedics took the victim to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. He arrived at 5:13 p.m.

Paramedics reporting from the scene advised dispatchers that the victim was in “traumatic full-arrest.”

A hospital spokeswoman reached Monday evening said she could not comment on the motorcyclist’s condition.

Nathan Judy, spokesman for the Angeles National Forest, said national forest emergency personnel were also attending to the crash victim.

“It appears he went over the K-rail,” he said, referring to a concrete barrier that serves to separate traffic from side-of-the-road hazards or heading in opposite directions.
