DENVER (AP) — Lawmakers are visiting the area of a May wildfire southwest of Denver that killed three people and damaged two dozen houses.

The lawmakers will also hear from residents in Conifer Monday evening after their tour.

A five-member commission created by the Legislature this year is reviewing the events surrounding the wildfire that grew out of a prescribed burn on state forest land. It flared a few days after it appeared to be extinguished. The blaze known as the Lower North Fork Fire caused at least $11 million in property damage.

The legislative panel may make recommendations on how the state can improve its response to future blazes.

A separate bill passed this year allows victims of that wildfire to seek compensation in excess of a state liability cap.
