3 dead, 3 injured after car plunges off the 134 freeway

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Three people were killed and three were hurt after a vehicle went over the side of a Los Angeles freeway.

California Highway Patrol Officer Tatiana Sauquillo said the SUV plunged off State Route 134 in the Eagle Rock neighborhood Sunday and landed on its roof on a street below.

Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said a 6-year-old girl was critically injured after being ejected onto freeway lanes before the vehicle tumbled down more than 50 feet. A woman, a man and an 11-year-old girl who were badly trapped in the car were pronounced dead at the scene.

Two others, a 55-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman, were rushed to the hospital in serious to critical conditions.

Officers shut down all eastbound lanes of the freeway to investigate.
