LONDON (AP) — Canyon High graduate Alysia Montano did just enough in her Thursday semifinal heat to punch her ticket to the 800-meters final.

Montano finished fourth in her heat, but a time of 1 minute, 58.42 seconds was strong enough to give her one of the final remaining qualifying spots in Saturday's final.

She'll race for gold at noon on Saturday.

Similar to her strategy on the preliminary race, Montano burst out in front early and came around the first corner in first place on Thursday.

But a strong field caught up to her, and though Montano tried to make a late kick, but it wasn't enough to catch up to the top three finishers, South Africa's Caster Semenya, Russia's Elena Arzhakova and Kenya's Janeth Jepkosgui Busienei, respectively.
