Is it gossip, or news?

Has The Signal turned into a gossip column ("Ex-wife Hides two girls in closet," Dec. 9)?

The article speaks about a domestic situation that does not affect my life, and I am no better for now knowing my neighbor's dirty laundry.

Are we now to read about every street's dirty laundry as well?

A newspaper's function is to inform the public of occurrences that affect peoples' lives.

Did this cover story help The Signal sell more newspapers on Tuesday?

In our neighborhood over a two-week period, there have been more than three break-ins.

None have been reported in The Signal.

Is the safety of people and their belongings not a news story?

Has The Signal's new management decided to become the Santa Clarita Rag instead?

I feel really bad for all the people involved in that domestic story, especially the innocent children who now probably have to deal with being teased at school as well as deal with their parents' problems.
