A 16-year-old boy was in custody Tuesday facing a felony charge of assault with a deadly weapon after a 14-year-old girl was allegedly threatened at knife point in Canyon Country, a local sheriff’s official said.

The girl was not physically harmed.

About noon, deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station converged on the McDonalds on Soledad Canyon Road at Luther Drive after receiving a 911 call that a woman had been threatened by a man who held a knife to her throat, said Lt. Mark Hershey.

Less than 30 minutes later they arrested a 16-year-old boy near the same intersection, Hershey said.

“At first it came in as possibly a boyfriend/girlfriend thing, but it could be a robbery,” Hershey said following initial reports, which suggested the incident did not happen at the McDonalds but that the victim ended up there.

No contact was made by the knife blade against the victim’s throat, early reports indicated.

By the end of the day, investigators still did not know for certain what precipitated the confrontation.

“All we know is that there was an argument and this is how it ended,” said Lt. Tom Bryski.

The suspect was taken by deputies to Juvenile Hall.
