Starting this week, Santa Clarita Valley residents have a bus service available midday to take them to and from the Antelope Valley.

The new service, provided by the Antelope Valley Transit Authority and funded at the request Supervisor Michael Antonovich’s office, provides eight trips each weekday — four in each direction — between the Palmdale Transportation Center and the Newhall Metrolink Station.

The service, which began Monday, is designed to allow Metrolink train passengers who are aboard lines that end in the Santa Clarita Valley to continue their trips to the Antelope Valley and return midday when the commuter trains don’t run.

Santa Clarita Valley residents who wish to visit the Antelope Valley and return may take the bus, rather than waiting for the commuter train schedule.

The schedule for the “North County TRANSporter” service was worked out with the cooperation of Santa Clarita Transit and Metrolink, said Antelope Valley Transit Authority spokeswoman Wendy Williams.

Tickets are $4 each direction.
