Firefighters have fully extinguished a brush fire north of Lake Piru that consumed an estimated 125 acres, an official with Los Padres National Forest Service said Monday.

The fire, now dubbed the Blue Fire, is “100 percent contained,” spokesman Andrew Madsen said Monday afternoon.

At least four firefighting crews were expected to remain at the fire scene throughout Monday “mopping up,” he said. Two water-dropping helicopters are also expected to remain at the site.

On Sunday, more than 200 firefighters struggled to contain the fire north of Lake Piru on the Ventura County line, fire officials said.

At least three firefighting units from the Los Angeles County Fire Department were airlifted to the fire line from a command center set up at the north end of Lake Piru, Madsen confirmed.

Crews from Ventura and Los Angeles counties turned out to help their Los Padres counterparts fight the stubborn fire, which threatened to spread throughout Sunday, he said.
