A man beaten with a baseball bat was taken to a local hospital Sunday afternoon following an attack in Val Verde, local sheriff officials said.

Shortly before 3 p.m., a man wielding a bat confronted and hit another man outside the Fast Stop Country Market store on San Martinez Road at Concourse Drive in Val Verde, said Lt. Tom Bryski of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“The man’s friend took him to (Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial) Hospital,” Bryski said.

Deputies responded to the incident, first described as an assault with a deadly weapon.

The incident is still being investigated.

Sheriff’s deputies had no updated report on the man’s injuries.
