An SCV Sheriff's Station deputy examines an LAPD motorcycle on southbound Interstate 5 near Lyons Avenue on Sunday.

A Los Angeles Police Department officer suffered “moderate injuries” Sunday afternoon in a traffic collision, a CHP officer said.

“The injuries are moderate and he’s going to be fine,” the officer said 30 minutes after the incident.

At 5:18 p.m. Sunday, CHP officers received reports that a motorcycle officer was involved in a crash on the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 at McBean Parkway.

At least one motorist stopped to help the injured officer, CHP reported.

CHP officers responding to the crash reported no other vehicle involved.

Southbound traffic was backed up on the interstate and reported to be clearing after 30 minutes.
