Saturday, Aug. 11

“Silents Under the Stars” event, will be held 6 p.m. Saturday at William S. Hart Park in Newhall. The featured silent film is a rare William S. Hart film called “The Whistle.” It is one of Hart’s hard-to-find non-Western movies.  In addition, there will be a Bill Hart Western short. Summer beach bus from Santa Clarita

Santa Clarita Transit is offering affordable weekend bus rides to Santa Monica Beach now through Sept. 2. Tickets are $3 for children and adults, $1.50 for seniors and individuals with disabilities. Heads Up volunteer training classes

Heads Up Therapy with Horses, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, is accepting candidates for its free volunteer orientation and training classes. Minimum age required is 14; those 14-17 need a parent’s signed approval to join the program. Graduates receive certificate and proceed to extended hands-on training. Carousel Ranch calls for volunteers

Carousel Ranch is a nonprofit organization that provides therapeutic riding lessons to children with special needs. Volunteers must be at least 15. Responsibilities will include working in lessons and ranch chores. Lesson times are: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 1-5:30 p.m.; Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Summer hours starting in June: Tuesdays and Fridays at 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; Wednesdays at 4-7:30 p.m.; Saturdays at 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call Gail to sign up for a time and day at 661-268-8010. SCV Food Pantry needs volunteers

The SCV Food Pantry needs volunteer drivers to pick up donations from local markets and businesses. Drivers must have a valid California driver’s license, the ability to lift 50 lbs. and the willingness to help those less fortunate in the Santa Clarita Valley. Volunteer drivers are asked to commit to one day per week.  Regularly scheduled pick ups with Food Pantry vehicles are made Monday through

Volunteers needed at Senior Center

The SCV Senior Center calls for volunteers for the following tasks: Pack nutritious meals for homebound seniors, 6-10 a.m.; deliver meals to homebound seniors, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; serve meals and clean, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. One day a week is all it takes to make a difference.
