Happy August! Wasn’t that an interesting Mid-western-type afternoon thunderstorm we had in the Santa Clarita Valley on Friday? Now we know what it’s like to live in Kansas!

Midnight at the Ranch

Heads up! Midnight at the Ranch might be one of the more fun and fabulous events to be held this year. The event, to be held on Sept. 22, will benefit the Santa Paula Police and Fire Foundation and Chamber of Commerce. It will be held at the historic Limonaria ranch. Moonlight at the Ranch VI: “Creatures of the Night!” will be part costume party and part food tasting extravaganza. Special guests for the Monster’s ball-themed event will be Bela Lugosi Jr. and Sara Karloff. Honorary co-chairs are the late Bela Lugosi (Count Dracula) and late Boris Karloff (Frankenstein). What a fun idea! For more information visit

Night at Coconut Grove

I am looking forward to what may be the most fabulous event ever held in the SCV (if I do say so myself) — A Night at the Coconut Grove — to benefit several nonprofits in the SCV. The evening will honor state Assemblyman Cameron Smyth and fashionista Margo Miller Hudson. The event will be hosted by the SCV Women and Men of Honor committee, on which I serve with Shelley Hann, Greg Amsler, Billie Hubbard, Ed Masterson and Joann Vindigni. I think this is the model for fundraisers of the future, an event that benefits more than one existing nonprofit. Kudos to Harold and Jacquie Petersen for stepping up in one of the sponsorship roles.  For more information, email SCVWomenandMenofHonor@gmail.com or call Shelley Hann at 818-599-0011.
