SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — A parolee from Orange County has been sentenced to 15 years to life in prison for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl he met on MySpace.

Prosecutors say Matthew Castaneda received the sentence Friday in Santa Ana. He must also register as a sex offender for life.

In May, jurors found him guilty of two felonies: aggravated sexual assault of a child and lewd acts on a child under 14. They reached no verdict on two additional counts.

Castaneda was on parole for a 2007 conviction at the time of the crime.

He met the girl on MySpace in 2009 and began communicating with her online, then months later met her near South Coast Plaza and took her to a motel room in Anaheim where he sexually assaulted her, then fled.
