Happy Daylight Savings Time! (However, I'm not a huge fan and I rather resent the extra time we've been stuck with it this year!) I survived my zip line adventure over the flora and fauna filled valleys above Kaanapali, Maui. It was a wonderful experience, despite my bruised toe and sore muscles! I highly recommend it! In fact, I recommend a Maui vacation anytime!

Celebrity waiter dinner
The annual Celebrity Waiter Dinner to benefit the Respite Adult Day Care program at the SCV Senior Center was held Feb. 22 at the Hyatt Valencia. It was a shame the Hyatt folks blocked off the back parking lot, forcing everyone to park in the structure (I guess the Amgen folks had to park somewhere!) However, it took a little of the "glitz" away from the annual "celebrity" arrival red carpet with "Phyllis Diller" (Mo Davis) when no one could enter from the back doors!

Elvi, Elvi everywhere
Despite the parking snafu everyone had a grand time at the Celebrity Waiter Dinner while raising money to benefit SCV seniors. I am always amazed at the clever costumes each year's theme generates. There were plenty of "Elvi" (Elvis Presley imitators) and costumes reflecting the various hotel themes (Excalibur and Luxor, among others). The table decorations were fabulous! Kudos to all the celebrity waiters who worked so hard! Scheduled to serve as celebrity waiters were Mike Beurer, Ingrid Boydston, TimBen Boydston, Mike Dunkle, Fred Elam, John Grannis, Maria Gutzeit, Reba Hallenberg, Duane Harte, Pauline Harte, Tracy Hauser, Bob Haueter, Brian Koegle, Bill Lively, Donna Manfredi, Ed Masterson, Bob Messina, Marsha McLean, Mary McGrath, Ed Mohaghan, Greg Nutter, Michael Owston, Judy Penman, Tim Shaner, Bob Spierer, Sharon Spierer, Mike Thomas, Debbie Thomas, Artie Thomson, Diane Trautman, Rosalind Wayman and Cat Wexler.

Viva Las Vegas table sponsors
Kudos to everyone who sponsored a table at the Celebrity Waiter dinner: Steve Arklin, Erica Betz/Rick Patterson, City of Santa Clarita, Comfort Keepers In-Home Care, Elks Lodge, Jasmine Foster/College of the Canyons, IHOP Saugus and Canyon Country, Kellar/Davis Realty, Mercedes Benz of Valencia, Poole & Shaffery, Princess Cruises, SCV Kiwanis, SCV Rotary, The Signal, Sunrise Senior Living/Summerhill Villa, Valencia Acura, Valencia Pharmacy, Williams Homes, Wolf Towing. This is what the SCV is about... taking care of our own!

Seen at Celebrity Waiter Dinner
As I had an early morning flight to Maui the next day and I wasn't able to stay for the entire evening, but those I spotted (and could recognize in their costumes!) included: Jay and Teresa Harn, Maureen Daniels, Earl and Patricia Bayless, Buck and Pat McKeon, Ed and Valerie Masterson, Don and Cheri Fleming, Dianne and Wayne Crawford, Marsha and Dale McLean, Tracy and Lloyd Hauser, Rick and Ann Patterson, Peter Goossens, Connie Green, Bob Kellar and Kathy Keysor Smith, Diane Trautman, Jeanna and Kyle Crawford, Jordana Capra and Jimm Newman, Colleen Shaffer, Pauline and Duane Harte, TimBen Boydston, Maria Gutzeit and Bob and Sharon Spierer.

Kudos to Newsmakers!
I want to thank everyone who supported the SCV Press Club and the annual Newsmakers Awards. Thanks to all our wonderful donors and everyone who purchased an auction item. I am personally, very grateful! I was sorry to be in Hawaii and miss this wonderful annual event! I heard Bella Shaw was fantastic, as were all the speakers!

Kudos to winners Bob Kellar, Michele Mann, Jeanna Crawford, TimBen Boydston, Dan Masnada, Jordan Taylor, James Sheilds, SCV Disaster Coalition and Valencia High Softball. A HUGE tip of the hat to Annemarie Donkin who demonstrated just what a professional she is, by covering my duties at this year's event! I could relax during my Maui sojourn knowing all was in good hands! A huge thanks to the Miss SCV pageant queens - Karisha Hathaway, Kirsten Garlitos, Dannay Rodriguez and Nicole Ryan - who worked tirelessly throughout the event - I don't know what we'd do without them! Also, kudos to Tim Whyte, who was out of the country before the event, for pulling it all together.
I think Randy Wicks would have been proud!
