Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station arrested one motorist for drunken driving at a checkpoint in Valencia last night aimed at catching those driving under the influence or driving without a license.

Deputies screened 1,065 drivers, gave two field sobriety tests, and arrested one for DUI, according to a Sheriff’s Department news release.

Nine additional drivers were cited for driving without a license or with a license revoked or suspended, the news release said.

Two cars were towed and four people were cited for vehicle code violations.

The next DUI checkpoint is tentatively scheduled for Aug. 31.

DUI checkpoints in the Santa Clarita Valley are funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
