A creeping half-acre brush fire near Castaic Junction was put out by rain amid thunderstorms Friday afternoon, fire officials said.

The fire was first reported around 2:21 p.m. and was creeping slowly about 1.5 miles north of Highway 126 near San Martinez Grande Canyon Road, a Los Angeles County Fire Department official said.

By 2:45 p.m., rain knocked down the fire, according to the official.

Although California Highway Patrol reports said the fire may have been caused by a lightning strike, the official could not confirm the cause.

Air units couldn’t be used for the fire because of lightning in the area, the spokesman said.
