Letter: Educate yourself before entering a debate

In Richard Myers’ July 31 letter “The real focus in gun control debate,” he displays ignorance on the gun issue.

He tries to belittle Richard La Motte’s opinion by using satire. Stating teaching gun safety in school will make kids want to own a gun shows a narrow point of view.

By his logic, we shouldn’t teach sex education because it will make kids want to have sex.

He keeps talking about “automatic weapons” and gun-rights advocates, thinking restricting them would be a Second Amendment violation. I suggest he educate himself on what an automatic, semi-automatic and single-shot weapon are.

He obviously has no clue and just spits out typical liberal/left dribble.

Automatic weapons are heavily regulated in the U.S., being nearly impossible for the average citizen to get or even afford.

The nut in Colorado had semi-automatic weapons, not a “machine gun” as suggested. Stating otherwise is a feeble attempt to use scare tactics and make something into what it’s not.

I’m just glad he didn’t decide to drive his car down the sidewalk at 100 mph and run over and kill countless others waiting in front of the theater, as Mr. Myers would have us all walking to work, fighting to ban cars.

Maybe that’s why they don’t teach auto shop in school any more. It’s not budget cuts — it makes kids want to drive!
